Grand Canyon Prep
Mission Statement
Through community,
parent, teacher, and student partnership, it is the
mission of Grand Canyon Prep to empower students to
fulfill their promise by promoting life long learning
and career potential through academic scholarship,
character development, and active citizenship.
Grand
Canyon Prep Vision
Many informed observers
predict that the future of the school classroom will
become smaller and that educational opportunities will
increase by way of location, and schedule. Major careers
will be centered in areas such as computer technology,
aerospace engineering, health and biological science,
teaching and counseling and environmental technical
progress. Students will be encouraged to learn skills
that promote active citizenship and a global
perspective. Grand Canyon Prep will meet the needs of
this changing climate by promoting scholarship and
service through the Four C's Program consisting of
college preparation, career guidance, character
education, and active citizenship in the community.
College: Our Curriculum
exceeds Arizona State Standards and prepares students
for both college and the workplace. Thematic and
integrated instruction in the Humanities, increased
graduation requirements in core subject matter areas
(English, Foreign Language, History, Mathematics, and
Science), portfolio assignments, District Assessment
Exams, an Academic Incentive Program and a Dual Credit
program with neighboring Community Colleges are all
highlights of this program.
Career: Teachers and
counselors will examine students' career interests and
promote educational opportunities for students to pursue
them. These may include shadowing and apprenticeships
for seniors. This is a process where we plan to
carefully scrutinize these interests over their school
career. There also may be opportunities to take classes
at valley vocational centers.
Character: At Grand
Canyon Prep, our character program is an integral
component to our curricular and behavior standards and
incorporates the Six Pillars of our Character program.
We encourage our students to be thoughtful, respectful,
tolerant, compassionate, cooperative, responsible,
honest, and progressive citizens who can positively
contribute to society.
Community: Linked with
the first three is Community. At Grand Canyon Prep, we
consider Community in two ways. First, our service
learning program has helped the poor, provided literacy
training, reached out to voters, and cleaned up the
environment. Students who excel here may qualify for a
National Service Scholarship where the recipient will
receive money towards college for their contribution to
Service Learning. Second, we are a small community where
students are in a family like atmosphere which provides
a small student to teacher ratio and individualized
attention.
Educational Studies
sponsored by organizations such as Learn and Serve, No
Child Left Behind, and America's Promise have shown that
children have a greater chance for educational,
professional, and personal success if they embrace a
school program that incorporates these components.
